California Proposition 65 Warning
Proposition 65 is the working name of California’s Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act. It obliges a business to warn people in California before they are exposed to a chemical that the state has placed on its published list. This page describes how that obligation is handled here.
What the law covers
The state maintains a published list of chemicals, and the list is updated over time. A warning is required when exposure to a listed chemical exceeds the threshold the state has set for it. Because the thresholds are specific to each chemical and each route of exposure, the assessment is a technical one and it depends on the material and the finished component, not on the product category as a whole.
How warnings appear here
- A Prop 65 notice appears on a listing when the maker of that item has provided one.
- Where a notice exists, it is reproduced in the product page and on the packing paperwork.
- Where no notice has been supplied, no warning is shown, and none is invented for appearance’s sake.
A Prop 65 warning is a disclosure about exposure thresholds. It is not a statement that a product is unsafe, and its absence is not a statement that a product is free of every listed chemical.
Operator confirmation
The chemical-by-chemical assessment for each item, and the exact wording of any California warning that should appear on a listing, must be supplied or approved by the operator before this store accepts live orders. Until that confirmation is in place, no listing on this store claims to be Prop 65 compliant or non-compliant.
Materials on this shelf
The care items we stock are silicone, beech, food-grade silicone and wipe-clean textiles, plus a water-based cleaner. The general statements we make about those materials are described on the material safety page. Specific material documentation sits with the maker of each item, and we will ask for it on your behalf if you need it for a purchase.
Questions
A California customer who needs to know the position on one specific item can email the product name before ordering, and we will put that item’s position in writing. The state publishes its own guidance at oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65.
